Principal Teacher

Qualifications and Classes

Qualifications: CSTD Theatrical Teachers Diploma
Classes: Jazz / Tap / Acrobatics

I was 3 when my mum first took me to dance classes but I was too shy to get  up, so mum took me back when I was 5. I was still shy but really wanted to dance. Peta Mckenney was my dance teacher right through till I did my Teachers Diploma in 1984. I first started teaching for Peta when I was 12, that’s when I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I loved teaching, and still have a passion for teaching that has not faded. I  started my own school in 1981 and due to my mums illness sold the school in  1990. I was asked to do the choreography for the musical “Carousel”, a  local production company was putting together.

This started my new passion  for musical theatre. I choreographed for a number of shows; Puss in Boots A  Pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, South Pacific, Calamity Jane and The Boyfriend. I then started another school with my sister Michelle in 1998 in Kalamunda.  We are now called Kalamunda Performers, we have a great teaching staff  including my daughter Breanne who was assistant teacher from the age of 13,  now our senior teacher taking her own classes.

MICHELLE GINBEY

Principal Teacher

Qualifications and Classes

Qualifications: CSTD Theatrical Teachers Diploma
Classes: Jazz / Tap / Acrobatics

I started dancing at the tender age of 2 ½ years old and have never looked back. I first started teaching with my sister Angela when I was 13 years old, she had started up her own dance school “Angela Jowett School of Dancing,” located in Midland. I continued to work with Angela and we built up the school to over 250 students, when in 1990 we sold the school as our beloved Mum lost her battle with cancer.

I then took myself off to Europe, where I travelled, worked and when the opportunity arose attended dance classes throughout Europe. Upon my return to Perth, I realized that I really did miss teaching children the art of Dance and Angela and I started Kalamunda Performers together in 1998. I love what I do and it brings me great joy to see students grow from toddlers into incredible talented dancers.

MARISA VERSACE

Teacher

Qualifications and Classes

Qualifications: Currently studying Bachelor of Primary Education
Classes: Singing / Tap / Jazz / Lyrical / Classical

I started dancing at the age of 5 and instantly fell in love with it. I have trained in most areas of dance including jazz, tap, ballet, acrobats and contemporary and have also taken vocal lessons since the age of 10 at Kalamunda Performers.

At the age of 12 I was lucky enough to become a student teacher. I have also trained in the ATOD examination syllabus and have travelled to Melbourne to compete in the ATOD Australasian Scholarship Competitions. I have competed at numerous other dancing competitions over the years which has encouraged me to become the performer I am today. I have also appeared on Telethon for singing and dancing and have been a part of many local shows.

I love everything about being on stage, performing and being an inspiration to the younger students. Watching them grow into beautiful dancers over time is the most rewarding feeling! I am currently studying a Bachelor of Primary Education and if it wasn’t for the opportunities at Kalamunda Performers, I wouldn’t be so passionate about this area of study. My love for dance never stops growing and I am so grateful that I can share that love with others.

SAM RYBKA

Qualifications and Classes

Qualifications: Bachelor of Education at ECU (Major in Dance and Drama)
Classes: Jazz / Lyrical / Acrobatics / Stretch and Conditoning

Dancing is my life and has been from a young age. I started Acro at the age of three and dancing at the age of five. Dancing has taken me so many places and taught me so many life lessons and enhanced me physically, socially and mentally as a person. In training I have completed all theatrical CSTD exams up to Grade 1 and Major Ballet Classical exams up to Advanced. I have been trained in and experienced many styles including jazz, tap, lyrical, ballet, pointe, contemporary, Hip Hop and Acro. I have completed a bachelor of education at ECU majoring in Dance and Drama.

Since the age of 9 I have competed every year in competitive dance competitions where I was able to find my strengths and weaknesses to improve and grow as a dancer, a place to be rewarded for hard work and be inspired by others.

I can’t wait to transfer my passion and love for dance to guide students to find the best version of themselves and provide tools and exercises for students to be the best they can be and most importantly to have fun in the development of their dance journey.

I was taken to my first dance class at the age of 7 at Kalamunda Performers and knew instantly that this was what I wanted to do. Since then I started learning as many genres as possible including jazz, lyrical, acrobats, ballet, hip hop, contemporary and tap.

At the age of 11 I became a student teacher and discovered my other passion; teaching. Qualifications and Classes

My dancing journey started at the age of 3 when my mum took me to my very first acro class. Dancing lessons kicked in at age 5 and I started competing at the age of 9. I always loved going to dancing but it was when I began performing at annual dancing competitions that I became very passionate and determined to be the best dancer I could be!

I have completed a bachelor of education at ECU majoring in Dance and Drama. I take classes in jazz, tap, ballet, acrobatics and hip hop. I train under the CSTD syllabus and have completed all my theatrical exams up to grade 1. I’ve also competed all my major ballet exams except one. In my most recent major ballet exam I received a score that ranged between 95-100. In 2013 I appeared on Australia’s Got Talent with my twin sister performing an acrobatic/dancing routine.

We were lucky enough to make it to the top 3 of our semi-final heat. It was an amazing experience! I have been very successful at most dancing competitions including recently being crowned the highest scoring soloist at Get The Beat Perth and winning a trip to America. I love to have fun and hope to share and pass on my passion, love and knowledge for dance to all my students and motivate them to be the best dancer they can be!

VICKI RYBKA

Teacher

Qualifications and Classes

Qualifications: CSTD Theatrical Teachers Exam
Classes: Acrobatics

My name is Vicki Rybka and my dancing adventure began when I was 2 years old at the Trembath School of Dance in Carlisle W.A. This school had the reputation as the best acro school in the state. Along the way I have learnt jazz, tap, ballet, highland and acrobatics. I have successfully completed all C.S.T.D theatrical exams up to grade 1.

By far my favourite and most enjoyable genre is acrobatics. My first floorshow was at the age of 6. I have performed with the 8 Imps and the 9 Dynamics who were well known acro troupes in the 70’s. We appeared at many venues around Perth and country towns. We also entered various talent quests, some of which were shown on T.V.  This included Spotlight on channel 9 where we won our heat and appeared in the semi finals and National Showcase in Melbourne with my duo partner Debra McCulloch where we won our heat and the semi final and appeared in the Grand Final.

Thankfully I have passed on my passion and enthusiasm to my two daughters Teagan and Sam. Who assist me at all the acro classes at Kalamunda Performers. I have taught them acro since they could walk and love to choreograph their acro routines for competitions, where they have been very successful. The best thing about teaching acro is seeing the student’s excitement as they progress and achieve their goals… its magic and I LOVE IT!
